PRINCEVILLE — The Kauai North Shore Lions, in conjunction with Aloha Roofing Supply, will hold its annual golf tournament for scholarships at the Makai Golf Course starting with a shotgun at 8 a.m. in Princeville on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Some 128 golfers are expected to participate, and over $41,000 in scholarships and prize money will be available, according to Jerry Moore, chairman of the North Shore Lions Golf Committee.
“We usually have two or three golfers a year that return to our event and have graduated college, and now some of the students are involved in the local industry,” Moore said. “It’s nice when they return because then everyone can see the fruits of their labor.”
The entry fee is $125 and includes lunch after the tournament.
The tournament will also feature a helicopter golf-ball drop.
Golf balls for the contest may be purchased on the web site or at the registration, and start at $10 per ball. Last year’s winner won $1,500.
The tournament format is a four-person Florida scramble, with prizes for hitting certain greens, straightest drive, closest to the pin, and a hole-in-one contest for a $25,000 prize.
