With Christmas almost here, the Ayonon ohana of Kauai Air Conditioning and Refrigeration wants to bring cheer to others with a $150 donation to The Garden Island/Zonta Club Christmas Fund.
Bobby Ayonon, wife Cyndi, son Colby and wife Maja, and children Chloe and Cruz say they extend “our mahalo to all donors for their thought act of kindness.”
It’s that kind of generosity that has made this year’s Christmas Fund such a success, with donations closing in on $25,000.
That money goes to help hundreds of families and individuals who seek assistance through social-service agencies. They include simple requests from keiki like Lou, an elementary student with a disability who would like clothes, shoes and toys for Christmas.
There is Reymond, an elderly man who lives on a fixed income and relies on his family for shelter and to help him with cooking and cleaning. He could use clothes and food.
The case of Leilani is particularly sad. She has a terminal illness, her parents have another children and a new baby is on the way. The family lives in different homes of relatives. It’s been a difficult situation and the family needs help.
Through today, The Garden Island has been sharing stories about families (we don’t use their real names) facing challenges. The Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide assistance.
Each donation is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrators collecting salaries. The money goes directly, via the Zonta Club, to help those who need it, for Christmas presents and groceries.
The Zonta Club of Kauai was started April 1, 1952, and in the ’80s added the Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, a nonprofit for fundraising. Also in the 1980s, Zonta Club of Kauai partnered with TGI to publish stories — with information provided by social-service agencies — about their clients’ needs so they could have a brighter Christmas.
Donations may be made to: The Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, P.O. Box, 3032, Lihue, HI 96766, or by way of their website: zonta-kauai.org.
Many people have walked in the front door of TGI’s Lihue office this year with donations. We thank you.
