Thousands on Kauai are expected to attend church services tonight that will feature hula, caroling, special messages, decorations and candlelight. And churches will be ready with something for everyone, including holding services outside church walls.
Pastor Jed Young of Kapa’a Missionary Church invites all to “Come and join a special service focusing on the birth of Christ at 6 p.m.
Their theme is “What’s in a Name?”
In Lihue, Breath of Life Ministries will be having its Christmas Eve candlelight service at the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club at 6:30 p.m. There will be a gospel message, hula, and special music.
“It is a great time to get refocused on our Lord Jesus Christ,” said Pastor Tom Iannucci. “Nowadays, we lose sight of what is important and get wrapped up in depression or daily stresses. We hope that this service will bring hope to people and we are blessed to have the Marriott open their ballroom to 500 people each year.”
On the South Shore, each Christmas Eve for over 25 years the doors of the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa Ballroom have opened to welcome those who want to spend a crisp hour singing carols, hearing stories and remembering the central reason for Christmas.
The Kauai Christian Fellowship Christmas Eve service has become a tradition for families on the Southside who enjoy the fast-paced, music and video-filled event designed for all ages.
With services at 5 and 7 tonight, all are welcome.
A special surprise often awaits those who attend this year. Anna Miriam Brown, a 19-year-old composer from Omao, will delight with a piece from her acclaimed composition, “His Story the Musical.”

• The Lihue Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hawaii, 4602 Ho‘omana Road, (German Hill). An afternoon service of carols begins at 3 p.m. A family candlelight service will start at 7:30 p.m with a potluck dinner following at 9:30 p.m. Finally at 11 p.m. Mass of carols, and holy communion.
• St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, Lihue, 6 and 9 p.m. services. Sacred music, carols and Holy Eucharist. Reception follows early service.
• The Episcopal Church on West Kauai, St. John’s at 322 Mehana Road, Eleele. Christmas carols begin at 8 p.m. with 9 p.m. candlelight Eucharist.
• St. Catherine Church Kapaa, Mass will begin at 5 p.m. Pre-mass choir concert will begin at 11:20 p.m. Midnight Mass will follow.
• All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 4-1065 Kuhio Highway, Kapaa. Family service begins at 5:30 p.m. Followed at 10:30 p.m. with caroling and Eucharist.
• St. Sylvester Church, Kilauea, Spanish Mass begins at 6.pm. followed by midnight Mass.
• Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Kilauea, candlelight service at 7 p.m.
On Christmas Day, a 10 a.m. service is scheduled at St. Paul’s at the corner of Auku‘u and Kiowea roads, Kekaha.

Personally I never did feel the politics Kaua’i had was anything worth while. But I guess so. Not rich, not smart, but known by a few. That is politics on Kaua’i. And that name is….?
