The weather may have canceled the Kauai Interscholastic Federation paddling and soccer events Saturday (Tori Kagawa said she didnt get the message so came in all the way from the Westside good thing the Isle Hoops Holiday Classic was taking place so she could take in some basketball!) but could not stop the shoppers on the last weekend before Christmas, who flocked to the Kauai Community Market at Kauai Community College (the one in Hanalei was canceled, too), where Jason Ebesu was a hit with his homemade ramen (Elvrine Chow said there was a lot of ono noodles).

Santa (thank heaven for smart phones, Laurie Ho!) took a break from the wind-driven showers to grab some of the ono Kauai Shrimp plates being demonstrated by chefs Steve Nakata and Martina Hilldorfer and the KCC culinary-arts students that went very quickly — “Free food? We’re there,” said Robert Topenio, who was visiting with Sonia and Eddie Topenio, and got the last of the shrimp plates.
Mayette Loseto got a head start on kadomatsu New Year’s decorations (Chow’s brother is going to have some Saturday, too!) along with a good supply of tamarind (she said it’s healthy and good for cooking — it’ll make you smile) along with the usual supply of flowers and other fresh produce for shoppers who didn’t let a little weather keep them away!
OK, more shopping on the final few days ahead of Christmas, as Jen Ortal said the Sheraton Kauai Resort in Poipu will have a group of crafters and vendors available today…and who knows who will drop in.
Happy holidays!
