LIHUE — If you’re still looking for the spirit of Christmas, it’s all around you. Here’s a look at Christmas-related events going on this weekend:
• If you plan to attend tonight’s annual Waimea Christmas Light Parade, get there early. Kaumualii Highway from Waimea Canyon Drive to Ala Wai Road close from 5:30 to 8 p.m., and crowds line the streets early. The parade starts rolling about 6:15 p.m. There will be free entertainment, refreshments and a chance to bond with the community. Ono grinds from the mom-and-pop restaurants, so bring some cash and chairs;
• Kings Chapel is back with its Christmas musical, “The Christmas Story.” It will be at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center at 7 tonight and 4 p.m. Sunday. “This is a full-on, Mary-and-Joseph production, and we just want to bless the community,” Minister Victoria Franks said. “It is a fun number, free. We want to bring excellence like other theaters on Kauai;”
• Chamber Music Kauai will present its Classical Christmas concerts at 7:30 tonight and 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Lihue. Admission is $15 general, and $10 for those under 22 years of age. Cash or local check only. Greg Shepherd directs the group, and Monica Chung is the accompanist. “With the mix of seasoned performers and younger members, there is a coming together of experience and youthful energy,” Shepherd said;
• Swing by the Waimea Public Library from 2 to 6 p.m. today for more Christmas cheer, with activities for keiki and adults;
• The Festival of Lights is set for 6 tonight and Sunday at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo;
• If you are on the Southside of Kauai, head to St. Raphael Church. It will be having a free Christmas show, The Joy of Christmas, from 6 to 8 tonight and Sunday. There will be food, keiki activities, gifts and music.
