POIPU — Wednesday was very merry for the Garden Island Arts Council at the weekly Kauai Culinary Market at the Shops at Kukuiula.
With Christmas looming next week, The Shops at Kukuiula designated the weekly farmers’ market as A Very Merry Kauai Culinary Market that featured the appearance of Shannon Hiramoto of MachineMachine and the GIAC volunteers leading a make-it-and-take-it, canvas shopping bag utilizing Hiramoto’s hand-carved blocks.
Girl Scouts from Troop 964, Koloa, also showed up to help with crowd control when Santa made his appearance for photos at the hale specially decorated to celebrate the holidays.
Other shoppers eagerly picked up the specially created 10th anniversary edition of the shopping bag that was created by Hiramoto and the GIAC volunteers helping during the shopping center’s anniversary earlier this year.
Stacie Chiba-Miguel, the Shops’ general manager, presented Hiramoto and the Garden Island Arts Council with an award of $4,000 for its efforts at both the earlier anniversary celebration and the final market before Christmas.
