HONOLULU — The Cyber Saints from St. Catherine School earned the prestigious “Think” award during the FIRST Tech Challenge championship contested at Le Jardin Academy on Oahu Saturday.
“The award was based in part on the quality of their very detailed and comprehensive engineering notebook,” said Cynthia Hannah-White of the Kauai Robotics Alliance. “The notebook documented all aspects of their robot design process, the design itself, software development, and team dynamics.”
The Cyber Saints, ranked No. 2 entering the tournament, were one of five teams from Kauai participating in the championship meet, including the Red Raiders Robotics from Kauai High School, ranked No. 16 following the league meet, and the RoboWarriors from Kapaa High School, who earned the No. 29 spot. It was the third consecutive year in the tournament for all three teams.
The Pueo Robotics from the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, and P.A.N.C.A.K.E.S, a community team comprised of middle school students from Kauai’s Westside, were first-time teams at the championships. The Pueo Robotics earned a No. 26 ranking, and P.A.N.C.A.K.E.S were ranked No. 22.
“St. Catherine’s did very well in the league season during which they attended the two meets on Kauai, and a third at Mililani High School,” Hannah-White said.
Kauai High School finished 10th in the open division, Kapaa High School ended in 13th place, and the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School finished 16th.
“Although these teams were not selected to play in the elimination bracket, they all enjoyed the season, built great STEM and leadership skills, and are planning on returning next year along,” Hannah-White said.
