Monday, a woman walked in the front door at The Garden Island and handed over a check for $100 for the TGI/Zonta Club Christmas Fund.
She stopped by for just a minute, offering the money with the simple statement that she wanted to contribute to the fund because she knew the money would be staying here, helping families and individuals who live here, and brightening the lives of keiki who call Kauai home.
For all that, and the kindness this woman displayed, we thank her.
This donation will go to help people like Sam, an 81-year-old man who lives alone in his Kapaa home and does not have much family support. He struggles to get around and to complete daily tasks. His home is in disrepair and could really use help with the purchase and placement of a tarp over his roof.
An elderly couple lives on a fixed income and depends on their 20-year-old son to assist with care. The husband suffered a stroke a few years ago and has some issues with his memory. He also has diabetes and has to depend on his caregivers to help administer all of his meds. The wife suffers with severe pain because of bad arthritis, has high blood pressure and has seizures brought on with stress. She could use a pressure monitor since hers broke last year and the husband could use some comfortable shoes. Anything to brighten their holiday season would be great.
In the nearly four decades this program has been going, it’s helped thousands of people, young and old. And that’s all possible because people like you have donated this fund.
