LIHUE — State Rep. Nadine K. Nakamura said that Gov. David Ige has released $1.4 million in general obligation bonds to be used for improvements at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, CT scan room.
This project will provide design and construction funds for much needed renovations of the CT scan room.
“I want to thank the governor for releasing these funds which will greatly benefit our residents,” Nakamura said. “Access to health care and important technology are key to living healthy, long lives. This critical project can now begin as soon as possible.”
Senate President Ronald D. Kouchi said the project is important for better medical care on Kauai.
“Releasing CIP funding for the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital CT Scan Room Renovation project is great news,” he said. “This upgrade will go a long way toward ensuring that Kauai residents and visitors will have greater access to proper medical care and treatment.”
Lance Segawa, Kauai Regional CEO for the Hawaii Health Systems Corp, said the project will take about 12 months to complete.
“The installation of a CT Scanner at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital will greatly enhance the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities,” Segawa said.
