PUHI — Kauai High School girls soccer opened the fall season on a winning note, taking its match 7-0 over Island School, Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls soccer match contested at the Island School field.
Tia Fulks and Eryka Napoleon took the lead for the Red Raiders, each player scoring two goals apiece — one each in each half — in the shutout where the Island School ranks were diminished by members participating in a celebration of life paddle out taking place in Hanalei, the Scholastic Achievement Tests, and the Voyagers hosting its winter ball.
Following goals by Napoleon in the second minute, and Fulks in the sixth minute, Mia Takekuma got a taste of the net with her goal in the ninth minute that gave Kauai a 3-0 lead at the break.
Mia Matsunaga lit up the second half, just three minutes into play by finding the net for the first of four second-half Kauai goals. Fulks added to the growing score, three minutes later at the 46th minute for the 5-0 bulge.
Jessica Hreljac closed the day with a late-game scoring flurry by finding the net in the 66th minute with Napoleon closing the scorebooks in the 70th minute.
No scores were available for the junior varsity Kauai High School vs. Kapaa High School, or the girls Waimea vs. Kapaa contests played at Vidinha Stadium.
Island School makes the move to Hanapepe Stadium, Tuesday when the varsity girls meet the Menehune in a 4 p.m. kickoff.
The Red Raider varsity will meet the Kapaa Warriors, Wednesday at Vidinha Stadium in another 4 p.m. start.
The Red Raiders will have a total of four remaining games before they are entering the holiday break.
All four remaining games will include Kauai Interscholastic Federation games against Waimea, Kapaa, and Island School.
The Voyagers will play Waimea twice, Kapaa, and Kauai.
