PUHI — Is the weather cold enough for “Frozen”?
“Girls, put on your protections,” said Jack Leonard, a coach and co-founder of the Kauai Gymnastics Academy, Tuesday night during the final run of rehearsals prior to their Sunday showcase. “Elsa is coming! Quickly, quickly!”
The clock ran as the gymnastists, all members of the Kula team, donned their cold-weather props as the princess of the Disney’s “Frozen” appeared to greet the girls on the Air4Tumble track at the Puhi facility.
Kauai Gymnastics Academy will present its 15th annual exhibition Sunday at Kukui Grove Center starting at 1 p.m. Admission is free as the gymnasts, aging from 7 to 16 years old, take to the Air4Tumble track that will be set up near center stage.
The gymnasts will be broken into three teams, the Iki Hui, or small team being the youngest performers, the Hoku Hui, or star team, and the highest level team, the Kula Hui, or gold team.
“Will Elsa stop by?” Leonard asked. “Will the gymnasts freeze? How about Olaf, is he going to be there? You’ll need to come to find out and watch as up to 25 gymnasts tumble, flip, cartwheel, and who knows what else they’ll do on the Air4Tumble track.”
The Iki Hui will work through group and optional tumbling, FX routines, including tag, cross, and Sol’s Routine, and a Frozen skit before opening the track to the Hoku Hui who will, in addition to tumbling, present FX routines at Levels 5 and 6 under the Amateur Athletic Union guidelines as well as its own level Frozen skit.
Kula Hui will add routines at Levels 7, 8, 9, and 10 performed under AAU guidelines.
Members of the Iki Hui, Levels 3 and 4 under coach Angela-Rhey Ventura, include Isabella Andres, Lucia Lozar, Meaghan Rogers, Sol Schmidt, Kenzie Stambaugh, Anessa Panday, and Hali‘a Toner.
Hoku Hui, Levels 5 and 6 under coach Lani Johnson, include Kaiya Barsness, Alea Sprenger, Sephina Thornton, Alexis Nakea-Tresler, and Chloe Waipa.
