PUHI — Teak Ruby-Ano will have two projects on display at Saturday’s showcase of students in Kauai Community College’s creative media program: His photography and an electronic, independent study project.
But the 33-year-old, nontraditional student downplays his work and highlights that of his colleagues, which he refers to as “high-end projects by high-end people.”
“My fellow students in the photography classes are incredible photographers,” he said. “These guys are getting hired by major motion-picture companies.”
About 125 students are in the KCC creative media program. Categories include event technology, website technology, music production, photography, graphic design, video production and 3D animation.
Their work will be displayed from 5 to 7 p.m. at the KCC Fine Arts Auditorium. It’s open to the public.
“That’s what I love about this program,” Ruby-Ano said. “It’s amazing what kids growing up right here bring to the table.”
Student Jennifer Karol Escobedo Zegarra said students will present animations, portfolios and videos which they worked on during the semester in each creative field. There will be a chance to talk to students and there will also be a brief tour of the creative media facility.
The projects are part of their final grades, and highlight their talent to potential employers.
“This is a big opportunity for the students to show their work,” Escobedo Zegarra said. “This is important for us to show the passion of the students.”
Ruby-Ano said students work hard and are proud of what they have created within the creative media program.
“This is an opportunity for Kauai as a whole to come out and see what KCC is really doing, and how intense, detailed and well-rounded the creative media program is,” he said.
