For the second straight year, Calvary Chapel Lihue Theater is presenting “Christmas In Rockville,” starting at 7 tonight.
The drama directed by Lance Kerwin is set at the first Christmas after the Civil War. It is described as a dramatic tale of family, loss, community, love and forgiveness as the country is in a time of great division, racial tension and family upheaval.
It includes Civil War-era costuming, live music by the Welch family, full stage and set design, concessions, and more in an intimate setting at the church, 3-3100 Kuhio Highway.
The cast includes Kerwin, Pastor Bruce Baumgartner, Hannah Hoshide and Sophia Ross, who plays a widow whose only son died in the Civil War, and she deals with the pain through a cynical heart and drinking.
But there is, she finds, a better way. And that is a message of the play. Through faith, there can be new beginnings.
In previous years, CCL has presented “Candle in the Window” and “Hope Station.” This year’s edition of “Christmas In Rockville” has been revamped a bit with new dialogue, scenes and characters.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and shows are at 7. Performances are tonight, Saturday and Sunday, and then Dec. 13, 14 and 15.
The play takes a break on Friday for the Lights on Rice parade.
Tickets are $10. Proceeds go to Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief, Gideon’s International, Operation Christmas Child, Friends of Bethany Hamilton Foundation, Kauai Prison Ministry and U-Turn for Christ, Kauai.
Tickets can be purchased at cclihue.com/tickets and at the door.
