County needs to repair Koloa Road
Highway 530, known as Koloa Road, is really an embarrassment to the County of Kauai and its citizens. It is full of potholes and patch work and feels like you’re on a roller coaster when you drive on it. Some of the holes are dangerous. This is a major road to some of the world’s best luxury hotels, and this is what the tourists get on their vacation. Like a Third World country. Highway 520 is almost as bad. Maybe if a councilmember had to travel that road, something would be done.
Oh well. Out of sight, out of mind.
Nick Hesseling, Koloa
Burnings create air pollution
In the Puhi area as darkness settles in, burnings are happening. With variable winds it’s happening above Kauai Community College or somewhere in Kipu.
Mostly it’s green waste and other times it’s garbage, plastics and tires. Green waste burning is through a permit and very limited, and garbage, plastics and tire burnings are not allowed.
All burnings create air pollution, but the garbage, plastics and tires burnings are very toxic and shouldn’t be happening.
Clean air should be breathed.
If anyone can put their finger on this and they care, call the police. The police are supposed to enforce this. If I can locate, I’ll call them.
Breathe clean air.
Mark Perry, Lihue
Up in Wailua Homesteads, Our subdivision off of Opaekaa Rd. is having the same problem with evening and night time smoldering smoke. Please report idiots to police.
We are a military occupied third world country with a huge stars/stripes american corporate bow. Word! no one cares about the Hesseling or Perry letters. Both of these writers would have objected to cane fires, haul cane roads, one-lane bridges, and zero flashing or redorangegreen traffic stop lights. Other writers that are allowed TGI space for comment wondered why mostly all of us drives a truck. Some of us live out of our trucks due to others taking all rental availability from the generations! This kind of written and published letters should be Explaining why the infrastructure is so dangerous islandwide. Two Hurricanes and double transplantation of newbie NOT from here who have made it illegal to have an imu, fireplace, barbque, burn green waste, cuz our Dump was full 20-years ago etc. etc.? Then, these same folks wonder why they are so unwelcomed. I would welcome the return of all that has been made UNlawful due to whiners
Please,…please go back on your medication.
Good Luck with that! In the past, I complained to everyone, including health department and the city council members…Joanne suggested I bake cookies for these offending neighbors so they would stop polluting the air in the neighborhood!
I concur as NO ONE cares about the Perry and Hesseling correspondence. They are obviously outsiders and don’t belong here anyway. Please go back to your homes far away from the island. Whiners unwelcome here.
