An anonymous donor is stepping up to help The Garden Island/Zonta Club of Kauai Christmas Fund.
The Hawaii Community Foundation Kauai Office reported that a donor would like to challenge the community to help raise funds.
The donor has pledged to match — up to a total of $5,000 — donations of at least $150. That means, your donation of $150 would basically be doubled and become $300. Or if you donate $500, it really becomes $1,000.
The donor will provide up to $5,000 in matching funds, so let’s take advantage of this generous offer.
The final grant to Zonta Club will be tallied at the end of the campaign and will be sent from the Hale Uluwehi Kauai Fund at the Hawaii Community Foundation.
Last year, the Christmas Fund raised nearly $25,000. Donations are used by Zonta Club members to purchase gift certificates that are distributed to families and individuals through social-service agencies.
This holiday season, more than 700 requests for help from the Zonta Club Christmas Fund have come in.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share daily, front-page stories about families (we don’t use their real names) facing challenges, and who would appreciate help.
One of those people is:
w Brady is a young man who functions like a child. He lives part time with his grandmother and part time with his mother.
He’s not receiving much help from Social Security and his grandmother is elderly and mother is barely making ends meet. He would be happy to have any little item for Christmas.
Donations may be made to: The Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, PO Box, 3032, Lihue, 96766, or by way of their website: zonta-kauai.org.
