Kudos to Franci Davila, Trysen Kaneshige, Seth Womble and the many, many hands (did you get yours involved?) on a great O Au Keia, A Healing Mental Health Art Show, that found life in the former Sports Authority space (Kukui Grove Center had the Vance Pascua mixed martial arts experience there last week). Carol Yotsuda was getting worried her Garden Island Arts Council board was going to leave her alone to disassemble the environment, and Trysen amassed a nice collection of artists for a nice street flavor, and Joanne Parongao had to get the Tsunami Taiko ensemble involved.

And speaking of taiko, Sarah Tochiki (she was one of three outstanding awardees at the YWCA of Kauai 11th annual Na Wahine Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i) had a select group of the Kauai All Island Band (they’re going to Japan!) making the drum line sound like taiko and completed the presentation of Oriental music based on a Japanese folk tune by having the members go through a bon dance routine — definitely a great experience and presentation!
Kudos to Renae Hamilton and that huge YWCA ohana on providing an opportunity for people (huge crowd of more than 350 people!) to recognize and honor the achievements of this year’s batch of women leaders — Tochiki, Stacy Sproat-Beck and JoAnn Yukimura!
Dickie Chang was present in his white coat, and Sherri Sanchez Holcomb (save the date for the Black Friday Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club craft fair benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network — Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) was also part of the night’s celebration along with Mary Williamson (that lei fashioned from the trumpet piece from “Sleigh Ride” was ingenious!) who said HIJoe made its final appearance Saturday at the Kauai Community Market at Kauai Community College.
