Junior Leones was participating in the annual Veterans Day service for the first time as he joined Nate Paleka (hes related to Kapaa High Schools Calvin Paleka) and Makoa Ibaan on the caretaker team (great job getting the place readied for the service!).

Kudos, too, to the Boy Scouts (Scoutmaster Ron Blackstad said the Holy Cross Altar Society sweet rolls were all sold out by 9 a.m. Saturday!) for their annual service of getting the graves decorated (and undecorated following the service), and Major Victor Aguilar (he was super busy with the First Teen Challenge robotics competition, the Kalaheo Missionary Church Veterans Day service, and the Kauai Veterans Council service!) had one of the largest contingents of the Waimea High School JROTC showing up on the holiday.
More kudos to Cindy Hannah White and the First Tech Challenge crew on hosting the robotics competition for middle and high school students at the Kukui Grove Center that had a window to transform the area from MMA to robotics, and back again to MMA.
The tournament featured first-time teams from Waimea High School (it’s a good thing Coach Fran Constantino’s Royalty had a bye in the Veterans Day Shootout tournament!), the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School (Smiley Punzal was supporting his son who’s on the team), as well as off-island teams from the Mid-Pacific Institute (they were checking out the Kauai Community Market and Amy Chun!), Punahou, and two teams from Mililani … Cindy said they have another robotics tournament coming up Nov. 23 that will feature more than a dozen teams from Oahu battling at the Wilcox Gymnasium at Island School.
Congratulations, too, to Sabra Kauka, Kumu Hula Leina‘ala Pavao Jardin and all those involved in welcoming Southwest Airlines to the Kauai ‘ohana!
