Cartoon creates wrong impression about chocolate
Cartoon creates wrong impression about chocolate
This past Monday you printed a political cartoon depicting the ingredients in chocolate being offensive to most sensibilities. However, here on Kauai as well as other islands, cacao has become a new, exciting agricultural industry.
We and other growers are proud of how we ethically manage our farms and, for many, produce chocolate with our harvests. A true Hawaii product from the bean to the bar, literally.
Your cartoon was a setback for all we have been trying to create here in the only state growing chocolate, using legal labor according to all our laws and regulations.
In our retail shop we try to educate customers, both local and tourist, of the unique properties of Hawaiian-grown and locally-made chocolate confections. We invite you and your cartoonist to come to Hanalei and try local-grown-and-made chocolate. We are proud of our products, as are our colleagues in this new field.
