LIHUE Michael Gmelin, a volunteer with the Friends of the Lihue Public Library, said there are a lot of books available at the Friends used book sale that opens from 10 a.m. Friday at the Lihue Public Library conference room.
LIHUE — Michael Gmelin, a volunteer with the Friends of the Lihue Public Library, said there are a lot of books available at the Friends’ used book sale that opens from 10 a.m. Friday at the Lihue Public Library conference room.
“There are more books here than you could read in a lifetime,” Gmelin said, unpacking boxes of books for the sale that benefits the library’s programs.
The sale is on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be an abundance of picture book titles, photo books, and coffee table books, said the Friends’ Dorene Sautner.
“We also have the collection of 78 rpm records that was offered for the first time during our last sale,” Sautner said. “There was a tremendous response to that so we’re continuing with the offer and leaving that room open. Other titles are available in Hawaiiana, art, travel, and celebrities.”
One of the programs getting help from the used book sale is Toddler Story Time where Children’s Librarian Victoria Lam had about two dozen young toddlers engaged in a Halloween-themed story and creating flying bats.
“We have our Halloween party next Thursday,” said Lam. “There will be little ones in costumes, and the staff will also be dressed up.
The day opens up with Halloween Toddler Yoga led by certified yoga instructor Gina Medrano, who works with children.
“She’ll be reading stories and leading yoga with all those little people who will be so cute in their costumes,” Lam said. “Our Halloween party for keiki starts at 11:30 a.m. with lots of games and activities like making masks. I just finished doing the cut out for photos parents can get for Halloween.”
Every young person who comes will get a book treat, too, Lam said.
