Did Gov. Tsugumasa Muraoka of the Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, and his delegation of visitors (kudos to Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami, Sue Kanoho and all the dignitaries on the tree-planting at Matsuri Kauai to strengthen the Kauai-Yamaguchi Sister City relationship) get to see what happened to the Lihue Civic Center surroundings after the sun went down Friday?

Carol Manera Texeira of the Kauai Chamber of Commerce had to cut short her Matsuri Kauai (kudos to Pearl Shimizu and all her Kauai Japanese Cultural Society ohana, including Art Umezu, on a great event!) because she had judging duty, and the chamber’s Anna Baudouin (she wanted some of that zaru soba) had to do soccer photos. But it was all right because Ron Wood found a window, and even got a sampling of the noodles (J Robertson of Hoike Kauai Community Television said he was going to walk over for some, too) that uses buckwheat (Laurie Yoshida said Corteva Agriscience grows that on the South Shore as a cover crop).
Ora Tashiro had all her sisters, including Lani, Alma, Mitzi and Lynn, visiting, so took in the Matsuri Kauai after checking out Lani’s granddaughter…wow! Three generations at the Matsuri.
If you hurry, there’s still time for the Harvest Ag Festival at Waimea Athletic Field today.
