LIHUE — For two $20 bills and a trip to the Westside you can eat as much calamari, crab, chili peppa chicken, cheese curds and poke as you want on Sunday.
The MCS Grill is hosting a buffet from 4 to 6 p.m., with the proceeds going to support the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. Tickets are $40.
Chimes Lauama, one of the owners of MCS Grill, said earlier this week that, for her, the fundraiser is about more than just supporting the community and a good cause.
“I lost my brother in ‘05 — he had leukemia,” she said.
“We just felt this was a way to give back to people going through the same thing.”
Lauama said the restaurant used to set up a vendor tent at the relay but eventually realized they simply didn’t have the manpower to staff both.
Instead, three years ago, MCS Grill started setting aside an off-day — the restaurant is normally closed on Sundays — to host a Relay For Life fundraiser.
Purchase advanced tickets at the restaurant, located at the traffic light on Kaumualii Highway in Hanapepe, or call 431-4645 to make reservations.
If you have never been there, they have great food, including an outstanding vegan meatloaf!
