Several physical therapy clinics on Kauai are collecting slippas for elementary school students through October.
The effort is a service project during National Physical Therapy Month.
Slippas, new or gently used, can be dropped off at numerous locations, including: Ohana Sports Medicine, Kalaheo and Kapaa; ROCK Physical Therapy, Kalaheo; Kauai Therapy and Wellness, Puhi; Hawaii Sports and Balance Center, Lihue; Wilcox and Samuel Mahelona rehab; Rider Physical Therapy & Sports Clinic, Hanalei.
Theresa Wiederoder with Ohana Sports Medicine Physical Therapy said kids often lose or break slippas, and when that happens, teachers and principals buy more out of their own pockets.
The goal is to collect enough slippas to deliver about 15 pair at each elementary school in early November. When students need a pair, they will be there.
