Kudos to Josie Pablo and her ohana from both the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital and the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (even Steve Kline got to enjoy the festivities) on the biggest SMMH Breast Cancer Walk to date (this was the seventh year theyve done this)!

Kapaa High School was one of the big contributors to the success of the event because of the volunteerism from everyone from alumni (Wilma Chandler and the Class of 1965 classmates!), to Catherine Paleka-Zirzow and the Kapaa High School Marching Band, Sgt. Ian Versamy (he even had his family from Canada participating!) and the Kapaa HS JROTC, and Tara Punzal was able to get the Kapaa HS National Honor Society members to finish the decorations following the overnight rains (nope, it didn’t rain on the walk), and, of course, Joan Kealalio and those ever-active Kapaa HS Interact Club (the Kauai United Way walk-a-thon is coming up soon!) members…wow, a lot of Kapaa High School involvement — mahalo!
Those were only part of the three pages (!!!) of community sponsors (kudos and mahalo to Kaylin and Emmsley Drake for the warming fire-knife performances, and Kimberly Hope for that electrifying violin performances!) who made Patti Ornellas and Uri Martos of the American Cancer Society smile (they’ve got a big event coming up later this month at the Hokuala Golf Club, too!).
And mahalo to Dr. Terry Allen and the Lihue Dental ohana for demonstrating World Smile Day when they dropped off dental-health packages to the shift crew at the Kauai Fire Department Lihue station…everyone was smiling big here!
