Da Shadow: Storm drain on Kealoha Road

The Shadow knows!” Jerome Freitas, a retired state Department of Transportation worker who is now better known as “Da Shadow,” since 2004 has been meeting with government representatives about problems he has discovered or that have been reported to him, and reporting the county’s responses.

Kealoha Road storm drain

There is a rusted storm drain along Kealoha Road that needs to be repaired. Could the county look into addressing this safety hazard? What is the timeline for these repairs to be completed?

The County of Kauai will hire a contractor to repair the grating. Once a contractor is hired, it may take up to two months for repairs to be completed.

Boulders on Lokelani Road

Residents on Lokelani Road near the Nounou Mountain (Sleeping Giant) trail parking area have placed boulders on what is believed to be the county’s right of way. Is this legal? If not legal, can the county ask the residents to remove the boulders from blocking the right of way?

The County of Kauai will investigate the matter in order to determine the next course of action.
