Ricardo ‘Papa’ Martinez Ruaboro
Ricardo “Papa” Martinez Ruaboro, 84, of Puhi, passed away on Aug. 20, 2019. He was born in Kilauea on Feb. 7, 1935, and retired from Lihue Plantation Company as a laborer.
He was preceded in death by parents Victorio and Salome Ruaboro, son Carmelo Ruaboro, and brothers Jenciano Ruaboro and Javis Ruaboro.
He is survived by wife Dionisia Ruaboro, children Winnie (Cely) Ruaboro, Alex (Imelda) Ruaboro, Agusto (Aida) Ruaboro, Carmelita (Almie) Ruaboro, Maddi (Brian) Valdez and Derrick (Stacey) Ruaboro, 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, siblings Carmen (Jaime) Jimenez, Van (Amelia) Ruaboro and Feliciano (Pilar) Ruaboro, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Mercedes ‘Mercy’ Efhan
Mercedes “Mercy” Efhan, 82, of Kapaa, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 6, 2019. She was born on Oahu on Jan. 6, 1937, and was a dedicated homemaker.
Her love for bowling and fishing came second to her love for her ohana. She was nurturing and caring to everyone that came into her life.
She was preceded in death by husband Sancho Efhan, granddaughter Shawnte Keala Efhan Jaquias, great-grandson Kamaha‘o Henderson, parents Simeona and Gregorio Datanagan, and siblings Larry Datanagan and Connie Villaro.
She is survived by daughters Bernie (Harlan) Nakae of Kapaa, Suzie Efhan of Lihue, Sherrie Efhan of Kapaa, Val Yadao of Hanamaulu and Lulu (Wilbert) Cummings of Puhi, sons Teo Efhan of Anahola and Aaron (Janis) Efhan of Lihue, grandchildren Kaipo (Tivoli) Jaquias, Jodelle (Lee) Alba, Deslynn Jaquias, Waynette (Jeff) Parraga, Tina (Greg) Parraga-Alejandro, Kai (Kawai) Parraga, Vanessa Parraga, Wesley (Cherisse) Henderson, Dewey (Napua) Henderson, Darius (Sadie) Henderson, Clifford (Jamie) Henderson, Micah (Maiah) Henderson, Liane (Kepa) Henderson, Shannah (Kalei) Parbo, Elisa (Brock) Kawaihalau, Paul Yadao Jr., Aaron (Jamie) Yadao, Kainalu Fernandez, Wai‘ulu Fernandez, Kekoa (Angelia) Cummings, Bryson (Levonn) Cummings, Sunni Efhan and Keli‘ikoa Efhan, 44 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, siblings Vic Datanagan of Daly City, California and Lourdes Corpuz of Ewa Beach, Oahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery pavilion at 10 a.m., with inurnment to follow.

Myrnamae K. Costales
Myrnamae K. Costales of Kekaha passed away on Sept. 7, 2019, at Straub Medical Center, at the age of 71.
She was a manager at Bank of Hawaii’s Waimea Branch.
She was preceded in death by parents Raymond M. Judd Jr. and Corinthia H. Kahalewai Judd of Honolulu, brother William Judd, sisters-in-law Carol Judd and Gail Judd of Honolulu, and grandson Shayden Csigi of Maui.
She is survived by husband Martin E. Costales, brothers Raymond (Stella) Judd III and Carol Judd, sister Elizabeth (Willy) Funn, sons Paul (Edie) Cosner, Joseph (Teresa) Cosner and Edwin Costales, daughters Cari Ann (Wojo) Csigi and Patricia (Tim) Drury, 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church in Waimea, with visitation from 8 to 10 a.m. and Mass to follow.
Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. at Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery.
Galen Toshiro Nakamura
Galen Toshiro Nakamura passed away on Sept. 13, 2019.
He attended Kapaa High School, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and the University of San Francisco School of Law. He returned to Hawaii where he worked as a public defender, Legal Aid Society of Hawaii attorney, and deputy county attorney. He later entered private practice and practiced at Shiramizu Loo and Nakamura in Lihue.
He was married to state Rep. Nadine Nakamura, and had two children, Casey and Reis. He was an avid hiker and enjoyed getting lost in Koke‘e State Park and racing up Sleeping Giant.
He is survived by his wife, children, mother Doris Nakamura and brother Kent Nakamura. He will be remembered at All Saints Episcopal Church on Saturday, Sept. 28, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m., with service to follow at 11 a.m.
Rosenda Campos Ancheta
Rosenda Campos Ancheta, 85, of Kealia, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Sept. 11, 2019. She was born in Lihue on April 6, 1934, and retired from the food service industry and was an entertainer at Coco Palms.
She was preceded in death by husband Estanislao Ancheta, son Angel Ancheta, and siblings Phil Campos and Domin Sibolboro.
She is survived by children Ray (Sandy) Ancheta, Ben (Stacy) Ancheta, Alvina (Anthony) Baduria, Stanley Ancheta, Eugene (Shannon Bagby) Ancheta and Tom Moreno, grandchildren Nohelani Ancheta, Robert Ancheta, Megan Ancheta, Shellimar Moreno, Mach Moreno, Kayley Roze Ancheta and Kanatai Ancheta, sister Flora Kahaunaele, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held.

Benjamin Albarado Allianic Sr.
Benjamin Albarado Allianic Sr. passed away at home in Lawai on Aug. 29, 2019, at the age of 93. He was born on July 31, 1926, in Waimea. He was U.S. Army veteran and a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by wife Linda Allianic, daughter Juvana Rapozo, father Dorotio Allianic, mother Margaret Albarado Allianic, and grandson Gary Allianic Jr.
He is survived by sons Benjamin (Laura) Allianic Jr. of Florida, Gary Allianic Sr. of Lihue, Mark Allianic of Lawai, Glenn (June) Allianic of Koloa and Derwin (Lisa) Allianic of Lihue, daughters Rose (Barry) Hashimoto of Waimea, Maureen Allianic of Hanapepe, Anna (Francis “Joey”) Brun of Lawai, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, brothers William Allianic Sr. of Pakala and Edward (Sandy) Allianic of Seattle, sisters Lillian Labrador of Florida, Connie (Merv) Bacarro of Lihue, Rose Marie (Herman) Peleres of Mililani, Oahu, and Carmen (Julius) Nordmeir of Wamea, and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Saturday, Sept. 28, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe, with visitation from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and service at 10 a.m., with a luncheon to follow.
The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.
Marie Sueko Rosa
Marie Sueko Rosa, 78, of Hanamaulu, passed away at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on Sept. 19, 2019. She was born in Lihue on June 2, 1941, and retired as a cashier with Hanamaulu Store and waitress at various locations.
She was preceded in death by parents Heikichi and Marie Rodrigues Wada, sisters Eleanor (Alfred) Pundyke, Domenica and Frances (Alec) Smith, brothers Joseph Castro Jr., William (Beatrice) Victorino Jr., Moses, Albert and Joseph (Bella) Victorino, hanai parents William and Emily Victorino Sr., numerous relatives of the Wada, Fukushima and Tanigawa families.
She is survived by husband of 57 years Howard Rosa, only child Kathleen Rosa, brother Louis (Margaret) Victorino, sisters Thelma Lopes and Alma Soares, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at St. Catherine Church, with visitation from 8 a.m., rosary at 9 a.m., and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.

Rosalia Viernes Erorita
Rosalia Viernes Erorita of Hanamaulu passed away on Aug. 29, 2019, at the age of 98.
She was born on June 30, 1921, in Damping, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.
She was preceded in death by parents Pedro and Margarita Viernes, and husband Lijardo Erorita.
She is survived by daughters Remy (Eddie) Gudoy of Lihue and Gloria Suniga of the Philippines, sons Julio Erorita of Lihue, Felix (Nelia) Erorita of Lihue, Regoberto (Yolanda) Erorita of Kalaheo and Ricarte (Merlita) Erorita of Lihue, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, sisters Maria Sagucio of Honolulu and Criselda Edu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Aloha Church in Lihue, with visitation from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. and services will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Lihue Cemetery.
The family suggests casual attire.
