PUHI — Soil health workshops are scheduled for today and Thursday at Kauai Community College, courtesy of The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), East and West Kauai Soil and Water Conservation Districts (EWKSWCD), and University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture Human Resources (CTAHR) Cooperative Extension Service (CES).
The three-day event is geared toward high school students, farmers, foresters, gardeners and ranchers. Presenters will include two Pacific Islands Area NRCS specialists, Kauai Soil and Water Conservation District Conservation Specialists, CTAHR Assistant Extension Agents, and the Kauai NRCS District Conservationist.
Today, high school students can learn about soil at KCC.
Thursday the talks run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and are geared toward farmers, gardeners and foresters. This workshop will be held at the KCC Office of Continuing Education (OCET) Room 106.
Friday, how soil health relates to ranching and grazing lands at KCC OCET Room 106 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
The workshops will go over the importance of soil health and how to achieve better soil health through the four soil health principles. Soil health is the foundation for increasing yield and protecting important natural resources. Each workshop will have food provided and a soil demonstration using a large-scale rainfall simulator.
