Hawaii Credit Union League announced Monica Belz, CEO of Kauai Government Employees Federal Credit Union, was honored as a member of the “Credit Union Rock Star” class of 2019.
Credit Union magazine annually awards this title to credit union professionals whose accomplishments elevate the credit union movement.
“Our 50 Credit Union Rock Stars are changing the lives of their members, staff and communities each day,” said Ann Hayes Peterson, vice president of publishing at CUNA and editor-in-chief of Credit Union magazine.
“They do so not only with their product innovations and concern for members’ financial well-being, but also with their servant leadership.”
Belz was recognized for her over-the-top effort to bring the credit union’s services to its members stranded by record rainfall, extensive flooding, and a dozen landslides that isolated the northern communities on Kauai. In the aftermath of the storm, Belz jet-skied, boated and swam to bring the credit union to its members.
Experienced in disaster recovery, Belz has coordinated help for four major catastrophes, been involved in international development and volunteer projects since she was 1, and been a firefighter since age 14.
“My entire team of credit union staff and volunteers are the true rock stars,” Belz said.
“Our staff and volunteers are the backbone and life-blood of our not-for-profit financial cooperative. Every day our team shows up with passion, hope and vigor to live the credit union motto of people-helping-people. I am humbled and honored to work with each and every one of them. We live and breathe community support and development. It’s part of our DNA.”
HCUL congratulates Monica Belz for earning the title of Credit Union Rock Star. Winners were nominated by their colleagues and selected by the editorial staff of Credit Union magazine. In total, 50 professionals representing 30 states are recognized as this year’s Credit Union Rock Stars, from a variety of disciplines.
Belz and the other winners will be featured in Credit Union magazine’s fall issue, sponsored by Fiserv.
