Soboleski, Lilley columns are must-reads
I just finished the Sunday paper and I thought to myself, wow, I have lived in communities with twice the population of Kauai that could only support a weekly paper. Thanks so much for keeping our little island up to date. I never miss Hank Soboleski’s Island History column or Terry Lilley’s Critter of the Week column. All your reporters are doing a great job! Keep up the great work and thank you!
Gordon LaBedz, Kekaha
Handball tourney a winner
First of all, mahalo to Randy Simao of County of Kauai’s Parks & Recreation Department, who informed the Kauai Handball Association a few weeks ago that the Kekaha practice tennis courts were painted. A bonus was the repair of the cracks in the courts’ floor.
Mahalo to tournament directors John and Caroline Kaua for producing the T-shirts and bringing in players from Sacramento and Honolulu; head referees Brian Davis and Nestor Figueroa setup the matches and scorecards; Evan Wise’s twin daughters who helped uncle Clay Hiramoto oosh (retrieve) the balls over the wall; Lyn Bukoski with her double order of banana bread and ham sliders; John Tenuto with his thin-crusted Italian pizza.
Members not present who helped: President Robert Zelkovsky, who made sure we had new balls for the games and promotions; Bogart Kealoha, whose recyclables helped the club treasury; Doug Yoneji, who made UFOs and donated a cooler of beverages.
Doubles team of Joe Walch and V. won first place, and Evan Wise won the singles. All players were A/Open-level players.
