Football season is here! Coach Bill Arakaki and his wife, Coach Blanche Arakaki, were enjoying football under the lights (enjoy it while you can fledging season starts Sept. 15!) when Waimea High School hosted the Honokaa Dragons (Coach Bill said he and Honokaa coach Fred Lau are classmates from Aiea High School) at Hanapepe Stadium.

Kudos to Kauai High School coach Jason Apilado on hosting the Kwansei Gakuin Fighters on Tuesday to a controlled scrimmage that provided a mini-version of a real football game … it’s amazing how vocal those female managers are for the Fighters and, yes, Coach Bill was there, too. Bobby Thompson was able to call the game before running off for his Kauai Interscholastic Federation officials certification exam.
Trainer Kevin Cadiente said Keith Burgess is hosting a student from the Ukraine this year (he gave her some rolls of tape so she could accompany him on a visit to the Kwansei bench), and mahalo to athletic director Keli‘i Morgado for making sure all the loose ends were tied up.
More football is on tap when Waimea hosts Orange Glen tonight in a single game kicking off at 7 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium.
Saturday, Kauai High School hosts Maui at Vidinha Stadium, with the junior varsity kicking off at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity matchup.
