Cynthia Chiang drove from Wailua to Waimea to participate in the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital bon dance.
“It is the last bon dance for this year,” Chiang said. “How can you not take it in? We won’t have another bon dance until next year.”
Hers was not the only comment about KVMH hosting the final bon event of the year, as hundreds of people took advantage of the clear Waimea evening to enjoy the offering sponsored by the KVMH Auxiliary.
The gathering featured the usual bon prayer of gratitude and thanksgiving as well as a special performance by the Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko to open the evening. Chef Carla Dusenberry opted out of the Friday Night Art Walk to set up her EandG lunch wagon that attracted lines long before the 5:30 p.m. opening.
The West Kauai Lions brought their flying saucer experience to the audience that bought out the night’s supply, and the Hui Alu Okinawa Club took care of the pronto pups that also sold out.
