POIPU — The ink on the symbolic check was not even dry as Island Comfort crews started unloading equipment and components of air conditioning at the Poipu Beach Athletic Club last week.
The Starr family — Ken, Teena, Josiah and Noah — was on hand to oversee the donation of $10,000 in air conditioning to the family-friendly environs of the club.
“This is one way we’re connecting with the community,” said Teena Starr. “John Horwitz and the Poipu Beach Athletic Club are always hosting family-friendly events benefiting everyone, but especially the people who live in Poipu and the South Shore. This way, we want the community to be able to enjoy the Poipu Beach Athletic Club facilities.”
The facility hosted the Koloa Plantation Days Ho‘olaule‘a, and wrapped up its 41-keiki summer program.
Tanya Hughes, Poipu Beach Athletic Club general manager, said they try to be family-friendly, pointing out activity poolside and outdoor games nearby.
“The air conditioning will be installed as part of the facility’s locker rooms and shower that are now being finished,” Hughes said. “This is so new the landscaping is still being worked on.”
