HONOLULU — “Aquaman” star Jason Momoa is visiting Native Hawaiian protesters blocking the construction of a giant telescope on Hawaii’s tallest mountain.
The Native Hawaiian Hollywood actor wore green leaf lei around his neck and the crown of his head as he attended a ceremony at the protest site on Wednesday.
Honolulu television stations livestreamed dancers in jeans and windbreakers performing hula in chilly weather.
Momoa stooped low to present an offering wrapped in green ti leaves. He said he was honored to be there, drawing cheers after saying, “We are not going anywhere.”
Protesters have blocked the road to the summit for 17 days.
They oppose the telescope because some Native Hawaiians believe Mauna Kea’s summit is sacred. The summit also has the best conditions for astronomy in the Northern Hemisphere.
So who is going to play the main role of the upcoming Kamehameha film, the Rock or Aquaman? Seems like Momona has Hawaiian blood and probably be more acceptable to the Hawaiian community, although the Rock can also star in this movie
There’s a certain irony that multimillionaire movie stars are backing the protesters of TMT, thus preventing hundreds of Hawaiians from obtaining good paying jobs and rewarding careers, all the while vying for a movie role that will enrich their already bloated lifestyle with more millions. Tear down the outdated telescopes, build the new telescope in their place, using no more sacred land than before, and have a win-win scenario for all concerned.
@truth be know
That’s actually a good plan ..
my question is why haven’t the “powers that be” come to that idea yet?
Neither one of these men need to worry about where to send their kid’s for a good education.
To “My 2 Cents” – common sense has no place in political theater.
