Alan K. Kahale
Alan K. Kahale passed away in Lihue on July 17, 2019, at the age of 57. He was born on Jan. 2, 1962, on Puuwai Niihau. He was a Rancher.
He is survived by wife Gladys Leiawapuhi Pahulehua Kahale of Kekaha; sons, Allen Kaleionalani Kahale Jr (Nawai) of Kekaha, Jay Lalanakaiinilani Niau III of Kekaha, and Jacob K. (Bridget) Kaohelaulii of Keawanui Camp; daughters, Melveen Ella Kaleiawapuhimaileokalani Kanahele (Derek) of Puuwai Niihau, Gina Kahokuokalani Shintani (Aaron) of Puuwai Niihau, Courtney K. (Gabriel) Kanahele of Pakala, Dolly Kapuaonaona Roback of Ewa; grandchildren, Kurtson Kawaimanaokalani Kahale, Heluialeilea Zhara-Eve Shintani; parents James Kaomealani Kahale and Salala Mailelaulii Keamoai Kahale; brothers, James K. Kahale Jr (Grace) of Keawanui Camp, Ricky N. Kahale (Amy) of Kekaha; sisters, Debbie (Lani) Kanahele of Kekaha, Laurie-Ann (Mitchel) Kali of Hanapepe; and by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on July 27, 2019, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kekaha, 8640 Kiowea Rd. with visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be a burial at the Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery. Family suggests casual attire, flowers welcome.

Ronald Hajime Silva, Sr.
Ronald Hajime Silva, Sr. passed away in Lihue on June 30, 2019, at the age of 77. He was born April 10, 1942, in Lihue. He was a Sewer Plant Operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Harriet Silva; wife Jean Puanani Silva; sister Linda Ching; brother Fred Silva.
He is survived by his sons, Ronald Hajime Silva, Jr. (Debra Kuali’i) of Lihue, Aaron Kanoe Silva (Noelani Ajimine-Silva) of Oahu; 4 grandchildren; brother Alfred (Harriet) Silva, Jr. of Kalaheo; brotherlin-law Larry Ching of Lihue; sisters, Aileen (Dennis) Higashi of Lihue, Lori Silva of Oahu; sister-in-law Anita Silva of Oahu. Also serviced by numerous nieces, nephews and Cousins.
Services will be held on Aug. 10, 2019, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. and Mass at 11 a.m. at Kauai Veterans Cemetery Pavilion. There will be a burial at Kauai Veterans Cemetery. Family suggests casual attire and flowers welcome.

Joveto ‘Jay’ Acoba
Joveto ‘Jay’ Acoba, of Waimea, passed away at his residence on June 7, 2019, at the age of 88. He was born on March 26, 1931, in Camp 4, Makaweli. He was a member of the U.S. Army and the Hawaii Army National Guard. He was an Irrigation Supervisor for Olokele Sugar Company, Ltd.
He was preceded in death by parents Rafael and Paulina Acosta Acoba; wife Christina Ariola Acoba; brother Juanito Acoba; brothers-in-law, Clarence Ariola, Sr., Paul Begonia, Paustino “Tino” Dana, Joseph Lennon, Donald Sonoda; sisters, Dolores Acosta Acoba Donellan, Julia Acoba; sisters-in-law, Carolina Ariola Sonoda, Florence Ariola Begonia, Josephine Visitacion Ariola, and Frances Yokoyama Acoba.
He is survived by two sons, Corwin Jay (Joanne) Acoba of Waimea, Christopher (Karen) Acoba of Hanapepe; daughter Joveen (Byron) Wong of Waimea; five grandchildren, Bryanne ‘Mei’ (Gordon) Wotherspoon of Kenmore, WA., Kalawe-Kalei ‘Kau’i’(Brandon) Kilwein of Everett, WA., Kaioli (Jennifer) Acoba of Kalaheo, Chyson and Kicah Acoba, both of Hanapepe; great-grandchildren, Brydon and Grant Wotherspoon of Kenmore, WA., Brady Kilwein of Everett, WA., Hi’iaka and Kaioli Jay Acoba of Kalaheo; sister, Violet Acoba Lennon of Stockton, CA., sisters-in-law, Celia Ariola Dana of Hanama’ulu and Helen Batis Ariola of Lawai; hanai son, Pat (Carol Apilado) Baniaga of Kaumakani; two hanai daughters, Fran (Greg Kingsley) Acoba of Kalaheo and Nadine (Michael) Mier of ‘Ele’ele. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Aug. 7, 2019, at the Waimea Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Mission Church from 8 to 10 a.m. with Mass to follow. Inurnment will be at a later date. The family suggests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.

Harry Gayagas
Harry Gayagas, of Kapaa, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 10, 2019, at the age of 85. Born on June 13, 1933 in Kapaa, he was a superintendant for Lihue Plantation and retired from Oahu Sugar.
He is preceded in death by his parents Luciano and Juanita Gayagas; sons, Harry Gayagas Jr., Howard Gayagas; brother Richard Gayagas.
He is survived by his wife Sally Gayagas; son Boyd (Gaylene) Gayagas; daughter Jaye Gayagas-Youn; brothers, Douglas Gayagas, Edwin (Norma) Gayagas; sister Edna (Charles) Wooten; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Kapaa with visitation at 9 a.m. and a Mass to be celebrated at 9:45 a.m.

Dr. Katok Chuang
Dr. Katok Chuang, 85, peacefully passed away on father’s day, June 16, 2019, at San Gabriel Medical Center in Pasadena, California.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; his children, Alison and Kirk; his five grandchildren, Chai, Rosie, ginger, bodhi and Buzzy-Pierre; and his great grandchild Manoa.
Service will be held at the Lihue United Church on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire requested.
Robert Clarence King
Robert Clarence King suddenly passed on July 13, 2019, at KVMH, at 1 p.m. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 1, 1932. He was 87 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Ruth (Eland) King; sister Ruthann Geommel.
He is survived by a brother Howard King, Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio. He is also survived by a friend, partner and care giver, Stanley Buduan; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob, is what everyone called him, liked to work in the yard. He grew orchids, volunteered with AARP doing taxes and at KHS Store in Lihue. He helped coach a women softball team although he’s not much of a sports guy. Bob was in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a radio operator on a ship stationed in the Philippines . After he was discharged, he went back to Cleveland, went to florist school and worked with his father. Work didn’t work out so Bob moved west where he worked for United Airlines. That’s how he cam to Hawaii and stayed.
Services will be held on Aug. 1, 2019, at Hanapepe UCC with a scattering of ashes at sea at a later date. Family suggest casual attire, flowers welcome.

John Kenneth Santos, Sr.
John Kenneth Santos, Sr. passed away on July 18, 2019, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Kauai. He was born March 1, 1932, to John and Mary Santos.
He served in the US Army (Korean War Veteran) and was Retired from Grove Farm and McBryde Sugar Plantation as a Senior Pan Man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening in his spare time.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Manuel Santos; sisters, Lillian Perreira, Betty Gomes; brother-in-laws, Richard Silva, Joe Gomes, Joe Perreira, John Ilalaole; sister-in-law Beatrice Santos; son-in-law Kerry Oatis.
He is survived by wife Louise Santos; children, Debra (Royden) Orsatelli, Sylvia (Robert) Tolentino, Irene (Lyle) Brackenridge, Donna (Tony) Dotimas, John Santos, Jr., Lisa Oatis, Albert (Rosela) Santos, Thomas (Cynthia) Santos; stepdaughter Margaret Nunes; sisters, Bella Ilalaoe, Louise Silva; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Celebration of his life will be held at Garden Island Mortuary on Aug. 4, 2019. Visitation from 2 to 3 p.m., celebration of life at 3 p.m. Food and refreshments to follow at Garden Island Mortuary. Family suggests casual attire.
Edward Bales
Edward Bales, of Lihue, passed away at the age of 90. Born on Dec. 17, 1928, on Kauai, he was a retired teacher and coach with the Department of Education.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leroy and Ida Bales.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Schumacher Bales; daughter Bonnie (Max) Ocariza; brothers, James Bales, Robert Bales; 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Lihue Lutheran Church with visitation from 8:30 a.m. Service starts at 10 a.m.
There will be a burial to follow at Lihue Lutheran Cemetery
