Alexis Iwalani Camacho
Alexis Iwalani Camacho, better known be all of us as Lani, was born in Lihue at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 6, 1958, to Hilda Apuakahei Maka Zaima and the late James Kaname Zaima Sr.
She always had a love for the ministry, and enjoyed helping people learn what the Bible teaches. She was baptized at Lydgate Park, in Morgan’s Pond, as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, on June 3, 1973, at the age of 14.
She spent many of her summers in the vacation pioneer work, temporary pioneer work and auxiliary pioneer work as we know it today.
She married Arturo “Artie” Camacho on Nov. 2, 1991. Thereafter, she auxiliary pioneered for two years until she joined her husband as a regular pioneer on Jan. 1, 1994. She was in the pioneer work until her death on July 13, 2019.
She was preceded in death by mother Hilda Apakahei Maka Zaima, father James Kaname Zaima Sr., and brother James Kaname Zaima Jr.
She is survived by husband Artie Camacho, brother Clesson Akira Zaima of Adak, Alaska, sister LaVerne Brede of Anahola, stepson Dathan Camacho of Arkansas, stepmother Gwen Fujimoto Zaima of Lihue, stepsisters Lisa, Cora and June Fujimoto, stepbrother Eric Fujimoto, and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and friends.
Services to be held on Saturday, July 27, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel in Lawai, with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m., with a celebration of life beginning at 11 a.m., and lunch to follow. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary K. Takemoto
Mary K. Takemoto passed away in Lihue on May 20, 2019, at the age of 72. She was born on March 3, 1947 in Lihue, and was a housewife.
She wasa preceded in death by father Hiram Kane, mother Anne Kane, sister Annie Kane, and brother Hiram Kane.
She is survived by husband Dennis K. Takemoto of Hanapepe, sons Ken Takemoto of Delaware, Mark (Kim) Takemoto of Hilo and Tracy (Connie) Takemoto of Hanapepe, grandchildren Kiernan, Tyde, Hunter, Tevyn and Archer Takemoto, brother Job Kane of Anahola, sister Gwen Calleon of Waipahu, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held Wednesday, July 17, at the Hanapepe Church of the Nazarene.
Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Edward L. Sarita
Edward L. Sarita passed away on July 2, 2019, at Straub Medical Center on Oahu.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1942.
He was retired as the manager of Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.
He was preceded in death by parents Gaudencio and Salome Sarita, and brother-in-law Gary Yoshida.
He is survived wife Charlene Sarita, daughter Kimberly (Walter) Sarita-Paresa, brothers Stephen Sarita and Dennis Sarita, and sister Fay Yoshida.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, July 24, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass to follow at 10 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire.
Harry Gayagas
Harry Gayagas of Kapaa passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on June 10, 2019, at the age of 85.
Born on June 13, 1933 in Kapaa, he was a superintendant for Lihue Plantation and retired from Oahu Sugar.
He was preceded in death by parents Luciano and Juanita Gayagas, sons Harry Gayagas Jr. and Howard Gayagas, and brother Richard Gayagas.
He is survived by wife Sally Gayagas, son, Boyd (Gaylene) Gayagas, daughter Jaye Gayagas-Youn, brothers Douglas Gayagas and Edwin (Norma) Gayagas, sister Edna (Charles) Wooten, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 27, at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa, with visitation at 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 9:45 a.m.
