He (Kapaa Hongwanji Mission hosts its bon dance Aug. 26 and 27) was working at the Kapaa Jodo Mission bon dance to fulfill that mission. Brian Atendido (how did that in-camera HDR work?) said Mike Teruya is probably recovering from jet lag after his trip to Europe to photograph hula, and the Rev. Kosen Ishikawa had his camera set up ahead of the dancers entering the ring.
Was nice to see Ed Nakaya, who retired from Kauai Island Utility Cooperative earlier in the month, and the Rev. Tomo Hojo had a measure of reassurance since Dr. Paul Esaki and his family were in attendance at the bon dance, where they had a big space reserved for the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (they’ve got an anniversary coming up Thursday) residents.
Kudos to the Kawaihau Majors Little League all-star baseball team, which has been working hard fundraising ahead of their participation in the Hawaii Little League State Championships. It’s amazing how many Safeway shoppers know the kids, or their relatives, and Ralph Suniga had to smile at the generosity of Lesah Merritt and the Safeway store for allowing the kids to fundraise on one of the store’s busiest days of the week, Friday.
