A small number of tickets for the state Miss Hawaii Filipina Scholarship Pageant are available at Mama Lucy’s in Puhi, and Mokihana Travel and the office of Dr. Antolin Apalla in Lihue.
The pageant takes place at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall on Saturday, July 27, starting at 7 p.m., as part of the Hawaii Filipino Community Council statewide convention, both hosted by the Kauai Filipino Community Council.
Nancy Apalla and Celia Melchor-Questin are co-chairs of the pageant, which will feature Kauai’s own Isabel Gampon vying for the Miss Hawaii Filipina 2019-20 crown. Other contestants include Miss Hawaii Island Filipina Sarah Barry, Miss Maui Filipina Mary Grace Basig and Miss Oahu Filipina Nicole Ashley Kawahara.
The reigning Miss Hawaii Filipina 2018-19, Joylene Tabon, will crown her successor following the pageant that will feature local entertainment vignettes.
So, do we get a Miss Ireland or Miss England or Miss Germany pageant that excludes Filipinos? Can you just imagine the stink that would make?
Do you realize that just makes your bigotry obvious?
