Josephine C. ‘Josie’ Raposas
Josephine C. “Josie” Raposas, of Juneau, Alaska, died in her home on Feb. 5, 2019, at the age of 70.
She was born in Lihue on July 27, 1948.
She was preceded in death by father Cirilio Y. Raposas, mother Rosaling B. Raposas, and brother Jose Raposas.
She is survived by children Lenny Abad, Camie (Abad) Williams, Cilio Pacheco and Tyrel Pacheco, 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson, siblings Jerry Raposas, Londring Raposas, Edwin Raposas, Merlita Honma, Helen Masuda and Adeline Walter, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A gathering will be held at the Port Allen Small Boat Harbor on Friday, July 12, with the service to begin at 2 p.m.
Joveto ‘Jay’ Acoba
Joveto “Jay” Acoba, of Waimea, passed away at his residence on June 7, 2019, at the age of 88. He was born on March 26, 1931, in Camp 4, Makaweli. He was a member of the U.S. Army and the Hawaii Army National Guard. He was an irrigation supervisor for Olokele Sugar Company Ltd.
He was preceded in death by parents Rafael and Paulina Acosta Acoba, brother Juanito Acoba, brothers-in-law Clarence Ariola Sr., Paul Begonia, Paustino “Tino” Dana, Joseph Lennon and Donald Sonoda, sisters Dolores Acosta Acoba Donellan and Julia Acoba, sisters-in-law Carolina Ariola Sonoda, Florence Ariola Begonia, Josephine Visitacion Ariola and Frances Yokoyama Acoba.
He is survived by sons Corwin Jay (Joanne) Acoba of Waimea and Christopher (Karen) Acoba of Hanapepe, daughter Joveen (Byron) Wong of Waimea, grandchildren Bryanne ‘Mei’ (Gordon) Wotherspoon of Kenmore, Washington, Kalawe-Kalei “Kau‘i” (Brandon) Kilwein of Everett, Washington, Kaioli (Jennifer) Acoba of Kalaheo, Chyson and Kicah Acoba, both of Hanapepe, great-grandchildren Brydon and Grant Wotherspoon of Kenmore, Washington, Brady Kilwein of Everett, Washington, Hi‘iaka and Kaioli Jay Acoba of Kalaheo, sister Violet Acoba Lennon of Stockton, California, sisters-in-law Celia Ariola Dana of Hanamaulu and Helen Batis Ariola of Lawai, hanai son Pat (Carol Apilado) Baniaga of Kaumakani, hanai daughters Fran (Greg Kingsley) Acoba of Kalaheo and Nadine (Michael) Mier of Eleele, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Aug. 7 at the Waimea Sacred Hearts of Jesus &Mary Mission Church from 8 to 10 a.m., with Mass to follow. Inurnment will be held at a later date. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
Garden Island Mortuary Ltd. is assisting the family with arrangements.
