James Beryl ‘Bill’ Clifford
James Beryl “Bill” Clifford, 90, of Princeville, passed away peacefully June 11, 2019, at Wilcox Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by wife Karen, parents Harry E. and Eva Angeline, brother Byron, sister Hallie Freile and son James Scott.
He is survived by sons Robert “Bob” (Mona) and Bradley Clifford, daughter Amy (Chad) Clifford Wamhoff, stepsons Marc and Mike Dahlquist, grandchildren Jade, Josh, Libby, Zach, Mackenzie, Spencer, Abby and Ally, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He grew up in Little Falls, Minnesota, and graduated from Royalton High school 1946. After high school he attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1951. With the Korean War going on, he served his country from 1951 to 1953 and was honorably discharged.
He was extremely active in politics, including serving as councilman in Plymouth, Minnesota and the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1973 to 1974.
He also had a successful career selling group life and individual insurance for North American Life for many years, eventually becoming the regional manager. In 1981, he decided to start Corporate Benefits of America CBSA, and went on to grow it into a very successful company.
In his career, he served as president of the Minnesota Life Underwriters, and received the prestigious industry award, the G. Bennet Serrill award, in 1989. After selling CBSA in 1991, Bill and Karen bought their home on Kauai, but did not move there until the completed the “loop” on their boat that took about a year and a half.
They lived in Princeville for 19 years, enjoying many trips around the world. He continued to live in Princeville after Karen’s passing in 2013. After suffering a major illness in May 2018 he moved to Garden Isle Healthcare &Rehabilitation in Lihue. There he enjoyed going out to dinner with a good friend, Jeff, many night for the last year. While living on Kauai he continued his love for politics and community by serving on several boards for condominium and housing associations in the Princeville area.
He proudly served as a Rotarian for over 20 years between Minnesota and Kauai, including being on the board, and also enjoyed giving garden tours with Karen at Na Aina Kai Gardens in Kilauea. He drove the tour cart while Karen shared her knowledge about all the beautiful things in the garden.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church in Hanalei. The family suggests aloha attire.
Richard Cummings Kaui Sr.
Richard Cummings Kaui Sr. of Keahapana Valley passed away at the age of 77 on May 7, 2019, at Pali Momi Medical Center on Oahu, surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 11, 1941, on Kauai.
He retired as a district road overseer, stationed at Hanalei baseyard after 33 years with the County of Kauai Department of Public Works.
He is survived by wife Jane L. Kaui, children Daniel Pohaku (Rochelle) Kaui of Kapahulu, Oahu, Joanne Katherine Griffin of Dallas, Pamela S.K. (Brian) Kaui-Baligad of Wailua Homesteads, Christy L.P. Kaui of Forest Grove, Oregon, Randolph “Randy” Kalihilihiokala (Erin) Kaui of Bellingham, Washington, Richard “Ricky” Kaui (Luci) Jr. of Keahapana Valley, Scott Kalani (Aulani) Kaui Sr. of Keahapana Valley, and Sharolyn “Mele” Maliana Kaui of Keahapana Valley and Kunia, Oahu, grandchildren Kaleinani Fumiyo Kaui, Kevin Keala Kaui Sr., Krystal Kini Kaui, Ryan Keola Kaui, Nicole Pa‘aikanoemakamailani Moore, Calvin Justin Griffin, Clemont Devern Griffin, Reginald Kenard Griffin, James Corey Griffin, Bryson Keli‘i Baligad, Brandi Kanani Baligad, Sherice Kealalani Almazan, Shaun Kekoa Almazan, Kamalulokelani J. Kaui, Carolyn Keli‘ikapaole Kaui, Creighton Kalihilihiokala Kaui, Brittany Mahealani Kaui, Scott Kalani Kaui Jr., Richard Wayne Kaulana Kaui, Kalia Kanoelani Kaui, Aulani Leipuamakamae Kaui and Maliana Ka‘iulani Kaui, 13 great-grandchildren, sister Irene Miyashiro of Kapahi, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.
Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kapaa Ward on Saturday, June 29, with public viewing 9 to 11 a.m., and chapel services from 11 a.m. to noon. Burial will follow at the Kaui family cemetery in Keahapana Valley, with a luau following the burial also in Keahapana Valley.
Nu‘uanu Mortuary and Garden Island Mortuary are assisting the family with arrangements.
Jordan Daniel Kealoha Tehero
Jordan Daniel Kealoha Tehero, a passionate skydiver, 23, of Kalaheo, passed away on June 21, 2019, on Oahu. He was born in Wailuku, Maui, on Oct. 1, 1995, and worked at Blue Knight Services Hawaii as a security guard and a specialist in the Hawaii Army National Guard.
He is survived by parents Garret Tehero and Colleen Anama-Tehero, brothers Chad Pomaika‘i Tehero, Troy (Jenna) Kapena Tehero and Isaac Keahi Tehero, sister Shawnee-Nicole Auli‘i Tehero, grandparents Barbara Anama, Richard (Judy) Anama Sr. and Joseph Tehero, and nephews Alaka‘i, ‘Aukai and Ashton.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 12, at the Kauai Veterans Center in Lihue, with visitation from noon and services beginning at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
