Congratulations to Isabel Gampon on earning the 2019 Miss Kauai Filipina crown! And the congratulations spread out from there as all of the candidates for the crown were deserving of the honor … Courtney Teves was spectacular in her Tahitian dance, and the terno was totally outside the box; loved the Filipino flavor of Tiffany Sagucios talent presentation, and Venus Sebastians combination Tahitian ahupurotu/otea had creativity working overtime … and Gwyneth Abella mustve had the terno judges working hard. Very well done, girls!

Kudos to Mario Trinidad, Virgie Cruzada, and the army of volunteers who come together to make this event take place (they’ve been doing this for more than 60 years!).
Tammy Pu‘u had to do bon dance (Bon Dance comes to the Lihue Hongwanji Mission, this weekend!) Friday night so she could get to the scholarship pageant, and kudos to Louisa Tanigawa, Joel Soriano, and Brandie Aguinaldo (they’re Menehune!) for attending to support a Kauai High School contestant.
OK, looking ahead…Mark Oyama said Na Koa (that’s the University of Hawaii booster program) is hosting Meet the Coaches with Nick Rolovich (he’s got more coaches coming as well) Thursday at the Kauai Community College dining facility from 5:30 p.m.
Tommy Oi, Gail Shibuya, and Shaku Arthur Kaufman open the Lihue Hongwanji bon dance weekend Friday, and Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami will introduce his new dance (remember Mayor Bernard Carvalho’s Electric Slide?) at the Mayor-a-thon, Saturday at the Kapaa Beach Park … registration starts at 6:30 a.m.
