Tristan David, Cindy Claudia and Tristan Graham all flew in from Puna (remember the volcano?) and went straight to The Storybook Theatre of Hawaii in Hanapepe Friday night. Kudos to Randy Francisco for arranging to have the parking at Hanapepe Stadium because of the Friday Night Art Walk and the West Kauai Hongwanji, Hanapepe Temple bon dance!

Patrice Pendarvis (Kalakoa Kauai is a new gallery on the sidewalk, taking the space once occupied by Arius Hopman — Kalakoa still has Arius’ works) enjoyed painting in the excitement of the Friday-night event (the Kahului basketball team, participating in the 11th Annual Kauai Hoops Classic, took up the opening shift at Bobbie’s!), and Gerald Hirata, now that the Kauai Soto Zen Temple Zenshuji bon dance is history, was cruising the crowd.
Shaku Arthur Kaufman (Lihue Hongwanji’s bon dance is Friday and Saturday!), the Rev. Mieko Majima and Roberta Yanagawa were checking out the WK Hongwanji, Hanapepe Temple bon dance (kudos to the Rev. Tomo Hoj0 and his ohana on a great event despite the highway improvements taking place!), where Dean Okayama and Neal Iseri were looking for shave ice customers and Linda Okayama had the score job of getting the fish pond premiums ready for the young anglers.
Carol Yotsuda had her puakenekene lei, and Masami and Jill Kouchi came over the mountain to enjoy the festivities with Bev Pang (Kauai Humane Society had a work day Saturday!), and even Judy Murakami (she had cookie deliveries to make) got to watch the sun go down.
Happy Father’s Day to all the papas!
