Good job and kudos to Aaron and Natsumi (she was really stepping up when Aaron became ill!) Yamasato and all the volunteers (Chuck Brady said he was really working for his money!) for the first comic convention that transformed the ballroom at the Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club into a fabulous scene of pop culture!

Bernie Tangalin and Marga Hashimoto (she’s related to Aaron) were doing double duty, helping with the Kauai Family and Community Education with lei making at the King Kamehameha Day Celebration and jockeying to the comic book expo, and Thomas Awong of Sueoka Store (Darren Curammeng of Ishihara Market was there, too!) said it was good to be a kid, again.
More costuming gatherings were taking place at the Kukui Grove Center where parents (and grandparents!) are taking advantage of class time for students of Team Kapu (Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani) with Aunty Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza to learn ti leaf and coconut skills to create outfits for the halau’s hoike (they’ve got another big one during the Holidays!) that takes place Saturday at the Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. show.
That still gives time to check out Harvey Maeda (he’s got another show and cruise coming up at The Shops at Kukuiula) and the Kauai Classic Cars’ Father’s Day car show that will unfold at the Kukui Grove Center on the Longs Drugs side of the mall.
