Hawaii Childrens Theatre has awarded the 2019 Ethan Shell Memorial College Scholarship for Performing Arts to Mahina Olores.
Hawaii Children’s Theatre has awarded the 2019 Ethan Shell Memorial College Scholarship for Performing Arts to Mahina Olores.
Olores will be attending Lawrence University in Wisconsin in the fall as a freshman, majoring in performing arts with an emphasis on music. She wants to be the first in her family to graduate from college and then to come back to Hawaii and give back to the community.
This scholarship is in memory of Ethan Bradford Shell, a young man who grew up on Kauai and participated in numerous HCT productions and programs.
He had graduated from college in New York City and was working in an off-Broadway play and as a model when he died suddenly from an undiagnosed heart condition in 2010, at age 21.
HCT and Ethan’s family started the scholarship program to support first or second year students who will be majoring in performing arts.
This is HCT’s 10th year to gift college tuition monies to Kauai’s talented kids.
Further information is on their website at www.hawaiichildrenstheatre.org and scholarship applications for 2020 will be available next January.
