After serving as interim director at Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i public charter school for several months, Fred Birkett is now officially taking over the position of school director.
As director, Birkett will continue to serve as the educational leader, responsible for managing and implementing programs and activities that support the mission of Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i as part of the iLEAD Schools Network (International Leadership Entrepreneurial Development Arts Design Thinking).
He will work collaboratively and establish strong relationships with Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i families and the local community.
The charter school is finishing its first year, and is located at Kahili Mountain Park.
Birkett has 28 years of experience in education and has an extensive charter school background. He has taught in elementary schools and held a variety of leadership roles as principal, was a university recruiter and supervisor for Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Upward Bound director at University of California at Santa Barbara. He is also an author and has written two books.
