Could the model sailing canoe being worked on by Keala Kai be the child of Hokulea and Namahoe? Keala (you never know the treasures you find on side trips while on assignment) said the sailing canoe model (it was created using wood upcycled by people who put it in his bucket while working on the Hokulea and Namahoe) was part of his shops decorations, and he was convinced by a visitor from Kentucky to let it go.
Could the model sailing canoe being worked on by Keala Kai be the child of Hokule‘a and Namahoe? Kudos to the Rev. Kosen Ishikawa of the Koloa Jodo Mission on having his guests from Japan perform before and during the intermission at the Friday bon dance with the shakuhachi and koto. The rendition of “Amazing Grace” was just chicken skin, and where was Isabel Gampon to check out the “surprise” dance performance during the intermission.
Isabel is one of the contestants for the Miss Kauai Filipina Scholarship Pageant that will take place Saturday at Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall at 7 p.m., presented by the Kauai Filipino Community Council (Alan Villaflor was busy with the Kauai Senior Roundup, too! — along with Jeffrey Callejo, Melani Okamoto and Veronica ‘Aunty Vernie’ Sakaguchi). Other Miss Kauai Filipina contestants include Tiffany Sagucio (she’s working on a video project), Courtney Teves, Gwyneth Abella and Venus Sebastian, with the 2019 Miss Kauai Filipina advancing to the state competition that, this year, will be held on Kauai in July.
