ELEELE — Chair Lee Cox Tsuchiya was more than winner of the “Sight is Beautiful” poster contest at
Eleele School.
Naoko Ho of the West Kauai Lions Club said Tsuchiya’s entry was a zone winner and, after advancing to the state, or district-level competition, finished in second place to earn her a $75 award.
The award, along with the winners from Eleele School, was presented by the West Kauai Lions Club Friday during a special awards assembly at the school, where the fifth-grade students also bid aloha on the final day of school.
Eleele School students in kindergarten through fifth grade were announced recipients of 18 of the 30 awards presented, including first-place honors for the kindergarten, third-, two fourth- and fifth-grade classes.
Ho said in addition to entries from Kekaha, St. Theresa and Eleele School, the Lions also extended invitations to participate to the two charter schools in Kekaha, and Waimea Canyon Middle School.
The West Kauai Lions Club will next host its annual fishing derby for youth Saturday, June 8, starting at 9 a.m. on the banks of the Hanapepe River, western end of the older Hanapepe Bridge. Prizes will be awarded by age group and fish categories.
