Leiko Yamauchi was named to two spots in the roster of 2019 outstanding Waimea High School student athletes that was released Thursday by the Waimea High School athletic department.
Yamauchi, outstanding in several of the Menehune sporting arenas, is the Outstanding Female Athlete. Additionally, Yamauchi was announced the recipient of the Richard Doi and Bunji Shimomura scholarship for best exemplying what Doi and Shimomura stood for and their contributions to Waimea High School, its athletic department and the community.
Lacin Montemayor, coming off the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II second-place Waimea High School baseball team, was named Outstanding Male Athlete for the Menehune.
Joseph Hedstrom filled the spot for Outstanding Male Scholar-Athlete, and was joined by Samantha Bostick, named one of three recipients of the Grove Farm Scholar Award, as the Menehune Outstanding Female Scholar-Athlete.
Breicen Medina, making his mark on the Kauai Interscholastic Federation tennis courts, was named the Army Male Scholar-Athlete, and was joined by Louisa Tanigawa, who was awarded the Army Female Scholar-Athlete honor.
These athletes were selected for their outstanding achievements on the playing fields and courts by the Waimea High School athletic department and Menehune Booster Club.
