Mary Lou Barela
Mary Lou Barela passed away at her home in Lihue on April 9, 2019, following several years of living with cancer. She was born on Aug. 12, 1940, in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joe C. and Annie Barela and her sister Darlene Barela Cooke. Her ashes will be scattered in New Mexico where her parents are buried.
A gathering in Mary Lou’s honor will be held at the Frear Center for Hawaiian Culture and the Arts at Island School on Friday, May 31, 2019, at 5 p.m.
Machie Kubota
Machie Kubota passed away at her residence in Kapaa on March 15, 2019, at the age of 85. She was born on Jan. 5, 1934, in Kahuku. She was a teacher.
She is preceded in death by Yosuke Ono, Tamano Ono, Harold Ono, Tad Ono, Sus Ono, Katsuto Ono and Edith Ono.
She is survived by husband Richard Kubota of Wailua; son Don Kubota of California; daughter, Laurie Kubota (Dwight Osborne) of California; grandchildren Emma Osborne; sisters, Margaret Matsuoka of Honolulu, Patsy Akagi of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Dora Tomoye Yamamoto
Dora Tomoye Yamamoto passed away in Spokane, Washington, on March 22, 2019, at the age of 92. She was born on Feb. 28, 1927, in Makaweli.
She is preceded in death by husband, Sutemi Yamamoto.
She is survived by her sons, Mark (Sheila) Yamamoto of Spokane, Washington, Paul (Paula) Yamamoto of Kailua; sisters, Chikako Yamashiro of Honolulu, Haruno Souza of Lihue, Marjorie (George) Honjiyo of Honolulu, Rachel Yamashiro of San Francisco, California; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Services were recently held.

Marquita Maria Granda
Marquita Maria Granda, 66, passed away in her home in Lihue on Friday, March 8, 2019. Born Oct. 23, 1952, in Sacramento, California. While Marquita held a brief career in real estate, she struggled with Lupus for most of her life.
Preceded in death by her mother Angeline Amavisca and her father Anthony Granda, she is survived by siblings, Duke, David, and John Granda, Monique Granda Wishniewsky, Elaine Granda Gramatzki; half-brothers, Gilbert Jones and Mark Amavisca; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family are invited to partake in a Potluck and Celebration of Life at noon on Sunday, May 26, 2019, at Kamalani Kai Play Bridge (Pavilion area) at Kitchens.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Hideko Kurosaki
Hideko Kurosaki passed away at her residence on May 10, 2019, at the age of 91. She was born July 27, 1927, in Kapaa. She was a sewing instructor.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Noriyuki Kurosaki.
She is survived by her son Alvin Kurosaki of Lihue; daughters, Jean Kurosaki of Lihue, Joan Kurosaki of Lihue; brother Katsuyoshi Kadota of Lihue; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held. No koden.
