LIHUE — A crowd poured onto the grounds of the Boys & Girls Club Lihue clubhouse Thursday.
The project started several weeks ago when Tina Albao, director of operations and development for the Boys & Girls Club, received a donation from Pure Good, the foundation for Pure Storage.
“I visited the Boys & Girls Club Kauai and saw firsthand how much the students enjoyed being at the club,” said Nicole Johnson, Pure Good executive director.
She found out what the organization needed to support even more students, and told her staff.
“Our employees exceeded all expectations, and together contributed more than $200,000, which will be used to help expand the existing facility and allow them the ability to offer new programs,” Johnson said.
The financial gesture was followed by the work day, when Pure Storage employees, top performers in the company, were treated to a vacation to celebrate their success. Albao said this is not the first time Pure Storage has been good to the Boys & Girls Club.
“Making an investment of this magnitude — some people gave financially while others provide physical effort — will positively impact more families to have access to quality afterschool care,” she said. “Building futures is our business, and Pure Storage is just the right corporation to send the message home that our kids are important.”
About 200 people, including Boys & Girls Club staff and board members, and Kauai Habitat for Humanity volunteers, pitched in.
Volunteers painted the new teen center. They worked on picnic tables, furniture and spruced things up.
