The Kauai Island Singers Showcase will present “The Mating Game,” a cabaret in two acts, with songs about the game of love, up close and personal, from searching, romance and desire to complications and conflicts and an ending with a twist.
“’The Mating Game’ is a post-modern cabaret in the style of the 1920s prohibition era,” said Melissa Mojo, the show’s producer and founder of Kauai Island Singers Showcase, the island’s only nonprofit organization dedicated to helping solo vocalists improve their skills through workshops and performance opportunities.
“The show features eight vocalists who are looking for love and become contestants in ‘The Mating Game’ when they visit the speakeasy run by Madam Vi.”
As the “contestants” sing their songs, Madam Vi weaves a bewitching story of love and deception as “The Mating Game” unfolds.
“It’s two hours of pure fun and entertainment,” said Mojo, who noted that this is the group’s first venture into the cabaret genre.
Featured “game contestants” (singers) are Mary Ellen Kopitzke, Trishana Star, Alison Miller, Dhyana Dunville, Melissa Mojo, Lee Miller, Pamela Varma and Siri Shabad, all with Hank Curtis on piano.
It is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Trees Lounge, 440 Aleka Loop, Kapaa. There is a $5 cover charge.
