Mason K. Gushiken
Mason Gushiken passed away at his residence in Koloa on April 15, 2019, at the age of 67. He was born on Sept. 3, 1951, on Kauai. He was a mason.
He is preceded in death by parents Gaelic Gushiken and Hajime Gushiken.
He is survived by wife Michelle Gushiken; sons, Scott Cabral of Kekaha, William Silva (Luvrie Landeau) of Kekaha; daughters, Kayla (Brayden) Gushiken of Lihue, Tracy Silva of Kekaha, Virginia Ka’aihue of Koloa; grandchildren, Kailea Ka’aihu Santiago, Laysha Lynn Silva, Raven Silva, Tracelynn Silva, Zaydan Silva, Kyniia Ka’aihue, Zairus Silva, Kahili Ka’aihue, Kupulau Ka’aihue, Kiana Gushiken-Pereira; brothers, Glen (Debra) Gushiken of Maui, Elton (Karen) Gushiken of Maui; sister Nana (Edward Cooper) Gushiken of London, UK.
Services will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation is from 2 to 3 p.m. Services will follow at 3 p.m. Casual attire suggested.

Francisco Taaca Jardin
Francisco Taaca Jardin passed away at his residence in Lawai on April 28, 2019, at the age of 95. He was born on Jan. 29, 1924, in the Philippines. He was a machine operator at Olokele Plantation. He also served in the US Army.
He is preceded in death by parents Bonifaciao Jardin and Anatalia Jardin.
He is survived by wife Carlina G. Jardin; son Robin (Agnes) Jardin of Mililani; daughters, Mercedes (Tom) Schlink of Germantown, WI, Lorena Jardin of Germantown, WI, Florinda (Karl) Ubongen of Lawai; grandchildren, Ashlyn Ubongen, Dylan Ubongen, Breanne Schlink, Shannon Schlink, Ryan Schlink, Michael Cooney, Jacob Cooney, Casey Jardin, Brandon Jardin; great grandchildren, Preston Forech, Nolan Forech, Madison Burns, Avery Burns, Connor Burns.
Services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Visitation is from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Mass will follow at 9:45 a.m. Burial to follow at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire suggested.

Juan P. Lorenzo Jr.
On Monday, April 15, 2019, our beloved “Papa” Juan P. Lorenzo Jr. passed away at home at the age of 68. He was born on Nov. 3, 1950, in Lihue. Juan was a retiree of both Kauai Electric and Kauai Island Utility Cooperative and the Hawaii Air National Guard.
In his younger years, Juan was an amateur radio enthusiast and under the call sign KH6JJC, chased contacts with other “hams” around the world. Later, he exchanged his radio with a camera and QSL cards were replaced with photographs. He loved taking pictures of sunsets and his family. He will be remembered for his warm smile and gentle nature.
He was preceded in death by his father Juan P. Lorenzo Sr. and his mother Tranquilina “Helen” Lorenzo.
Juan is survived by his wife Gail and three children, Celeste (Aleks Andrews) Lorenzo, Bradley Nelmida, Meagan (Arthur) Rice; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother Melvin (Cindee) Lorenzo; sister Cynthia (Dan) Albosta; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Garden Island Mortuary with viewing from 9 a.m. followed by service at 11 a.m.

Virginia Madayag Cabillan
Virginia Madayag Cabillan, 84, of Lawai, passed away on April 12, 2019, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital. She was born in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines on Jan. 28, 1935, and retired from Wilcox Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper.
Preceded in death by her parents Julian and Barbara Alegado; twin sister Ines Cabales; brothers, Daniel Alegado, Santos Alegado.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Rolando (Leah Lei) Agustin, Froilan (Ashley) Madayag; grandchildren, Hunter Madayag, Taylor Agustin, Scarlett Madayag, Phoenix Madayag; sisters, Adoracion Almero, Bobbi Hernandez, Maring Torres; brother Simo Alegado; stepdaughters, Solena (Ed) Guerrero, Ramona (Bill) Reilly; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. Family suggests casual attire.
Jon Kalani Makanani
Jon Kalani Makanani, 70, passed away in Portland, Oregon, on Dec. 5, 2018.
Jon was born on March 12, 1948, in Lihue, to John and Agnes Leimomi (Manini) Makanani, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Cheryl (Lawrence) Jordan, Clinton Makanani, Randy Makanani.
He is survived by his brother Gabriel (Phyllis) Makanani of Washington.
Services will be held at Koloa Missionary Church on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.; services to follow.
Shirley Jane Ipac
Shirley Jane Ipac, of Eleele, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 9, 2019, at the age of 71. She was born on Kauai on March 2, 1948, and was a dedicated homemaker and caretaker, and worked as a housekeeper at Poipu Kapili.
She was preceded in death by her husband Juan “Keawe” Ipac; parents Frank and Jennie Jane Simao; brother Michael Simao; sister Patsy Alayvilla.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Jennie (Vill Jr.) Balisacan; sons, John Ipac, Justin (Ashley) Ipac; brothers, Frank Simao Jr., Patrick Simao; sisters, Theresa Mahuiki, Diane (Michael) Carvalho; grandchildren, Jacie (Shaun) Ipac, Javin (Jaecie) Balisacan, Joshua Aceret-Ipac, Jondelle Aceret-Ipac, Cerriah Ipac-Perreira, Jusiah Perreira-Ipac; great-grandchildren, J’sha Kawamura, J’zen Kawamura, Kingsley Malama-Balisacan, Jairae Aceret-Ipac, Jahstice Aceret-Ipac, Jaydam Ipac, Jayzden Ipac; numerous uncle, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on May 25, 2019, at The Episcopal Church at 8640 Kiowea Rd at the corner of Elepaio and Aukuu Road Kekaha, Kauai.Visitation is at noon with services to begin at 1 p.m.
Leis are welcome and family requests aloha attire.

Leonida ‘Leo’ Fernandez Fujimura
Leonida “Leo” Fujimura passed away at her residence in Kekaha on April 21, 2019, at the age of 86. She was born Jan. 4, 1933, on Kauai. She was a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by parents Casiano and Patricia Fernandez; daughters, Mary and Angelina Fujimura; brothers, Elpedio Fernandez, Andres Fernandez.
She is survived by husband George “Buji” Fujimura; sons, Keith (Jan) Fujimura, Nolan Fujimura, Lance (Mercy) Fujimura; grandchildren, Renette (Rico) Garma, Traci (Greg) Soriano, Kerick (Erin) Fujimura, Amlan Fujimura; great-grandchildren, Arianna and Alyssa Garma, Emmet Fujimura, Kaleb, Ryder, Ayva Soriano; brothers, Larry Toni of Oahu, Feliciano “Pelane” (Lita) Fernandez of Kauai; sister Clarita Ide of Oahu; numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Visitation with is from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Mass will follow at 10 a.m. Casual attire suggested. Flowers omitted.
